Introduction to Statistical Fisheries Stock Assessment
COURSE AIMS
AND OBJECTIVES
The goal of
this course is to introduce participants to modern statistical methods used in
fisheries stock assessment and natural resource modeling. This five-day
intensive course is structured as a series of modules each containing
theoretical lectures, demonstrations, but most importantly, working sessions
with practical exercises in stock assessment modeling. Topics covered in the
course will include: 1) Fitting models to data; 2) alternative modeling
approaches; 3) statistical age-structured models; and 4) the Stock Synthesis
(SS) statistical age-structured modeling software.
