New on Board: Carlos Marrero

Tell us a bit about the work you are/will be doing at CCMAR.
I got a scholarship as a research technician in the Breedflat project. It consists of developing a set of tools to characterise the quality of gametes and the reproductive performance of broodstock, characterize the profile of exosomes in blood and seminal plasma in flatfish as a marker of predictable molecular quality in male reproductive performance and dietary supplementation for improvement of the gamete quality system.

What were you doing before you joined us?
Before coming to Portugal, I have been working at the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands, in the cultivation of toxic microalgae that are the cause of the ciguatera fish poisoning disease in the Canary Islands. Later, I worked on a project with a European fund on the blue economy, whose purpose is the union of fishing and tourism in the Canary Islands.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I consider myself an adventurous person, I love hiking and discovering new places. I really like being with friends and playing sports like scuba diving or soccer. In my free time I usually watch TV series and I love Reading books.
