New on board: Rita Alves Costa

1. Tell us a bit about the work you are doing at CCMAR.

I will be working as a Postdoc Researcher in the project ODORACID: Neuronal effects of ocean acidification in a temperate fish species, Solea senagalesis (ALG-01-0145-FEDER-03062). The project aims to evaluate how environmental pCO2 alters the olfactory epithelium of the sole and how this sensory input is processed at different levels in the central nervous system, leading to detrimental behaviours.

2. What were you doing before you joined us?

It`s the next natural step in my scientific career so I feel highly motivated for it! I have been involved in projects about the physiology of fish skin and the improvement of growth-related traits in aquaculture species, which means that with this new project I will now apply my technical knowledge in a different and exciting area. So… expectations are high!

3. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I like to be outside, in the nature, either in the mountain or by the sea, so I try to do different kinds of outdoor activities with friends and with my 7-years old daughter the most I can, like running, hiking and my most recent passion, surfing!
