Sustainable Fisheries and Conservation

Our research on fisheries and conservation aims at supporting the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), fostering the sustainable exploitation and management of resources and contributing to mitigate the effects of drivers of global change. For this, we develop research activities on climate and fisheries, ocean observation systems and fisheries management, which allow us to improve our knowledge on:

  • Fisheries biology and ecology;
  • The influence of environmental factors on recruitment;
  • Multi-species/multi-trophic modeling;
  • By-catch and discards mitigation;
  • The development of alternative gears;
  • The recreational angling, socio-economic and ecosystem impacts of management measures;
  • New management approaches for fisheries.
