New on Board: Adrián Montalt

Tell us a bit about the work you are/will be doing at CCMAR.
I will participate in fish welfare research projects related to behaviour and physiology factors. As an example, one of the aspects our group intends to assess is whether different aquaculture environments may induce stress in fish.

What were you doing before you joined us?
Due to current conditions, I have been working as a kind of beach watcher in my hometown. I would say I was half a security guard and half an informer, sharing and trying to enforce the latest safety rules regarding the pandemic. I invested my summer spare days finishing my master thesis about parasitic pathologies in European eel, one of the most representative (and also endangered) fish of my region, Valencia.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I consider myself an innate explorer! So, when I'm abroad, the first thing I do is walk up and down the whole city, village or nature area and try to mimetize local culture and traditions. I use to spend my free time planning trekking adventures with friends, going fishing though I am so bad at it, trying international cuisine in restaurants or baking my own cakes. I also enjoy reading fantasy books or writing short essays, which tend to talk about magic worlds or sci-fi.
