New on Board: José Paulo da Silva

José Paulo da Silva is going to work as Scientist - Analytical Services Unit.
Welcome José Paulo!

Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR.
I will be developing the analytical platform of EMBRC.PT. The goal is to make our expertise in structural and chemical analysis available to users from Research, Education and the Industry sectors.

What were you doing before you joined us?
I was doing research and teaching in areas ranging from analytical chemistry to supramolecular chemistry and photochemistry. I also gave technical and scientific support in chromatography-mass spectrometry, which combines teaching and research. My research activities have been mainly developed at University of Algarve but I also stayed at Technical University of Lisbon and Columbia University.

What interests and hobbies do you enjoy when you are not doing science?
My major interest is multidisciplinary research. Although my background is in chemical sciences, I like to combine paradigms of different research fields. As I have fun doing research, sometimes I cannot distinguish between work and hobby. However, in my free time I enjoy music and spending time with my family and friends.
