I am a passionate and experienced marine ecologist (+15 years), currently working as Researcher at the University of Algarve, including teaching at Degree and Master levels. My research mainly focusses on seagrass ecosystems, comprising multiple countries and regions, with particular focus on the European NE Atlantic and the NW Mediterranean basis. My work always combines experimentation and field data collection to address major research questions regarding current patterns and drivers, as well as main consequences of global change.
Main topics
- Species interactions modulating seagrass ecosystems
- Biodiversity of seagrass-associate fauna and seaweeds
- Seagrass ecosystem health- Seagrass bioindicators and biotic indices
- Global change and invasive seaweeds
- Seahorse feeding ecology
The research line on species biodiversity and interactions that I lead represents a key branch of the ALGAE group, in which it is integrated in a collaborative environment. I have a strong commitment to teach in higher education and to mentor students towards successfully completing their projects, including the publication of their research as first authors in top peer-reviewed journals.
