Luis Bentes holds a MSc in Marine Biology (2011, University of Algarve) and a degree in Marine Biology and Fisheries (1996, University of Algarve), with 30 years of experience in fisheries and habitat mapping he published 69 articles in peer review international journals. Currently working at the Centre of Marine Sciences of Algarve, his actual research is focus on habitat and ecosystem services mapping at national and European level, using most recent AI algorithms for modelling fishing spatial activities distribution and their relationship with habitats and ecosystem services. He has participated in several scientific projects, involving researchers and institutions of various nationalities, his main focus was on the characterization and biological mapping of the seabed, assessment of impacts of human activities on coastal marine areas and marine spatial planning. He has a long experience in using remotely operated vehicles and scientific diving for the study of benthic marine habitats and developing new technologies for low cost benthic assessments.
