The specific objectives of the project are summarized below:

  1. Identification of specific microalgae (scalable) with target functionalities and biomolecules (antimicrobials, and antioxidants activity).
  2. Application of the selected microalgae for greenhouse hydroponic water treatment and utilization.
  3. Holistic valorisation of side-streams obtained during hydroponic water treatment.
  4. Development and testing of economic and eco-friendly nonthermal food processing methods for quality improvement and shelf life extension-Synergistic application with produced biocomponents.
  5. Design and testing of economic and eco-friendly active food packaging technologies for quality improvement and shelf life extension-Synergistic application with the produced biocomponents.
  6. Assessment of the sustainability of the new packaging solution for different supply chains
  7. Effective communication/dissemination to all stakeholders of the projects’ aims, objectives and outputs.
